The Governor's Prevention Initiative for Youth (GPIY) is a federally funded cooperative agreement awarded to the State of Connecticut  in July 1998 from the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP). The Governor's Prevention Initiative for Youth will collaborate efforts between Governor Rell’s Office, the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

The Governor's Prevention Initiative for Youth is supported by the Governor's Office, Department of Children and Families, Department of Education, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Department of Public Health, Department of Social Services, Department of Transportation, Judicial Branch, and the Office of Policy and Management.

The GPIY web site is coordinated by the UConn Health Center Evaluation Team and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services' Prevention Unit to support the initiative's activities.
